Thought you had a tough delivery with your eight-pound
bundle of love? Try delivering a baby twice that size! That's exactly
what happened to Janet Johnson and Michael Brown, who became parents to a
remarkably large baby boy on Friday, July 8.
Doctors told the Texas couple to expect a large baby, probably somewhere between 12 and 13 pounds. But when they welcomed son JaMichael Brown a little after 9 a.m., the new parents and their doctors alike were stunned to discover that he weighed more than 16 pounds! The newborn had a 17-inch chest, a 15-inch head and a full head of hair, but thankfully for Johnson's lady parts, he was delivered via Cesarean section, Today reports.
Although JaMichael's large size has some drawbacks - it's harder for newborns his size to maintain their blood sugar levels, and his parents will have to return lots of the newborn items they bought because they simply won't fit him - Johnson and Brown say they're just thrilled to have a healthy baby.
"I'm happy," Johnson told the Longview News-Journal. "We'll be here for a few more days, and then I'm looking forward to bringing JaMichael home and just loving on him."
