Britain's Got Talent: Susan Boyle Wins Over the World in 24 Hours

UK's Most Famous Cat Lady Wins Over Simon Cowell

When Susan Boyle, a 47-year-old, frizzy-haired, bushy-browed Scottish spinster, stepped on the Britain's Got Talent (Simon Cowell's other show) stage, the studio audience pretty much assumed she'd be the next William Hung to butcher Ricky Martin's "She Bangs."

But after a stammering start, what they got was a voice closer to the next Leona Lewis.

Susan's performance of "I Dreamed A Dream" from Les Miserable left even cantankerous Simon slack-jawed in stunned amazement as literally a star was born in the most unlikely Cinderella story EVER.

Lifetime couldn't have scripted a better story. God knows they tried with the whole LeAnn Rimes made-for-TV affair.

Boyle suffered mild brain damage at birth and was bullied as a child, turning to singing as an escape. She isn't a classically trained singer -- her experience is limited to church and karaoke. Formerly employed as a church charity worker, she's currently out of a job, lives with her cat Pebbles, and she told Britain's Got Talent that she's never been kissed. She stopped singing after her mother passed away but auditioned for Britain's Got Talent to fulfill a wish to her mother.

Amazing voice + tug-at-the-heart-strings back story? Yeah, the other contestants might as well just pack it in and call it a day.

The Susan Boyle episode aired this past Saturday and already the YouTube clip of her performance has been viewed over 5.6 MILLION times. Simon Cowell is apparently in talks to nab the raw talent a record deal whether she wins or not.

And Meryl Streep should totally play her in the inevitable Hollywood movie. She proved she can sing in Mama Mia, she can act her socks and shoes off, and if she goes full-on Method and gains weight for the part . . . we smell Oscar gold. She wants to win, damnit!

I was quite blown away by this performance. What really wowed me was that look of surprise in Simon’s eyes when she started to sing. I saw genuine admiration there – absolutely incredible! I really hope she wins.

I'll admit it: I got teary-eyed. I think her big beginning effectively ended the contest--there's no way she's not going to win. Spot-on future-vision of a Meryl Streep film adaptation! She's a bona-fide Scottish Edith Piaf. It's such a shame she wasn't discovered earlier, but much better late than never to rightfully claim a "Vie En Rose", right?
