The Best Marriage Proposals On Television

altSome of the steamiest romances we've ever seen have been on television. When our own relationships are on the rocks or lacking in the 'hot and heavy' department, we turn to our favourite on-set couples and live vicariously through them.

Nothing makes us tear up like an over the top cheesy marriage proposal. Here is a list of our favourites!

Monica and Chandler
In true Chandler fashion on the hit show Friends, his plans are thwarted by misunderstanding and spontaneous appearances by unwanted guests, such as Monica's ex-boyfriend Richard. When his proposal is interrupted by the evil ex at dinner, Chandler decides to postpone it. To throw her off course, he leads Monica to believe that he is entirely uninterested in the concept of marriage, making her doubt their commitment to each other. Meanwhile, evil ex Richard swoops in just in time to confess his love for her and offer everything she thinks Chandler is suddenly against. Follow? It all comes together, and in a frantic search for Monica, thinking she has taken off in anger, he enters his apartment to find her standing there in a red dress surrounded by candles. "You wanted it to be a surprise...", she says, and gets down on one knee. If that scene didn't send shivers down your spine, we don't know what will.

Pam and Jim
Is there a cuter couple on screen or off? Pam and Jim have been the talk of TV romance ever since the premiere of The Office. Their sexual tension throughout the first few seasons had viewers on the edge of their seats with every episode, and when they finally sealed the deal we all breathed a sigh of relief. It was only a matter of time before they married, and in the proposal episode Jim mentions that he bought a ring the first week after they started dating. Awwww. He tries to pop the question once and office mate Andy beats him to the punch with his own public proposal, but we think the second time around is way better anyway. While Pam is away in New York for art school, they agree to meet at a halfway point between the school and the office. There, outside of a gas station in the rain, Jim presents the ring. Sweet and charming.

Charlotte and Harry
On Sex & The City, Charlotte York is often described as a "Park Avenue Pollyanna" and the title suits her well for the most part. Still, we can't help but root for Manhattan's darling as she falls in and out of love with style. A few bumps along the road and one failed marriage later, Charlotte meets Harry. He's not exactly the tall, dark, and handsome stranger Charlotte had pictures of on her vision board - in fact, he's bald, sweaty, and worked as her divorce lawyer. But he sweeps her off her feet just the same. The two split for a short time but when they both find themselves reconnecting at a Jewish singles event, Harry can't stop gushing and he ends up proposing. It's a tearful and romantic scene, heartfelt but not too extravagant, just the way Charlotte likes it.
