Where To Elope

Secret Wedding Destinations

Saying “I Do” is a huge deal. Sure, the commitment part is scary - but the planning? Now THAT’S truly terrifying.

How many guests? What will you serve? The venue? The bridesmaids? Your inappropriate Uncle Herb and the bridesmaids! It’s enough to give you a headache.

Lucky for you, you’re not at all alone. This is why many people choose to take their nuptials elsewhere, away from the chaos, and the planning, and the seven-tiered cakes that no one ever eats.

Elopement is a practice that dates back hundreds of years. Back in the days of star-crossed lovers and arranged marriage, familial commitment and class separation, eloping was the ultimate sin.

Today, it may not make the parents clap with glee, but it certainly isn’t illegal, and many people opt to do it.

So if you’re thinking of jetting off to exchange vows, here are the top places to elope:

1. Las Vegas
Hey, no one said this list wouldn’t be completely predictable. Las Vegas is known for it’s chapel variety. Although each offers it’s own special package (The Elvis Experience gets supreme ratings) , each venue is pretty much the exact same. White chiffon draped from the ceilings, fake flowers woven through word down lattices, and rent-a-witnesses on standby for when you want to get hitched at 4 a.m. and it’s just you and your honey. It’s not exactly classy, but if kitsch is what you’re into, Vegas is the place to be.

2. Niagara Falls
Right between Canada and the United States sits one of the worlds greatest wonders. A waterfall. A big, huge, roaring waterfall. And a string of casinos. Many people choose Niagara because it’s close, it’s easy, and it’s inexpensive. Additionally, there are many beautiful wineries to tour, and quaint restaurants to eat at.  Whether you choose the falls, or Niagara on The Lake, know that you’re not alone. On any given weekend, an estimated 100 Canadian couples sneak away to the tiny township to get married on the hush.

3. Hawaii
Get leid, get married, and then get laid.  Hawaii is hot, tropical, and the perfect place for romance. With beaches stretching as far as the eye can see, lush greenery framing the backdrop, and plenty of non-denominational wedding venues to choose from, Hawaii is a beautiful spot for you and your loved one to make it official.  Not to mention the fact that it’s like a wedding and a honeymoon all wrapped into one!

4. Paris
Ah, Paris. So beautiful, oui? They say it’s the birthplace of romance as we know it, and with all of the wine, accordion music and beautiful French people, they’re probably right. Picture standing with your partner beneath a starry sky, all back-lit by the Eiffel tower. It’s will certainly be an event you’ll never want to forget - or annul.

5. Disney World

Every girl dreams of being a princess on her wedding, so what better place to get married than Disney’s Magic Kingdom. They offer “spontaneous” wedding packages at competitive rates, and throw in all the fixings! A carriage ride, an amusement park pass, and some of the best guests in attendance: Mickey, Minnie and Goofy!

No disrespect meant to Billie but I think today's brides may find her choices to be far more varied and amazing than the classic listed American and token European local listed in Billie's article. Sure they are true and tried destinations that just perhaps ones parents or even grandparents may have eloped to, but in today's world, one could perhaps dream of a list of more exotic locals may be of interest to a more modern bride.

For the UK brides it would include Sri Lanka, Bali, Italy and even Thailand as popular choices.

For today's American Brides Costa Rica, Hawaii, Jamaica and Mexico to their liking.

So If it is going to be truly special, lets think out of the box and dream, and just maybe choose to experience more than the ordinary.

Dream it, Live it!
